Under 19s embark on Dallas Cup adventure

1 year ago By Andrew Matthews

The 37th edition of the Dallas Cup begins the weekend and the Under 19s are in action on Sunday (20th March) afternoon, with the schedule laid out.

With the squad having arrived safely in the US once again and warm ups in place, the schedule is set for this year's Dallas Cup.

US Portsmouth have been placed in Group G of the under 19 tournament and will take on 3 academies in the shape of Houstonian FC, North Shore United and FC USA Texas between Sunday 20th and Wednesday 23rd March.

First up on Sunday ; Houstonian FC, a Houston based city run academy to aid the development of young people in the inner-city region of the densely populated area of Texas. Following their founding in 1996, the academy have gone from strength to strength and this squad; the 98's, come into this tournament as State champions so will be a tough test for the young US side.
The match takes place at 11:30am CDT/ 16:30 GMT at Richland College.

Next up, just a day later is another tough tie against Milwaukee based North Shore United. North Shore are an adult side who play in a Winconsin regional league and boast a centre of excellence and large academy which has progressed well in recent years.
The side that take on US Portsmouth reached the quarter finals of the Dallas Cup previously and are ranked number 1 in their state after an impressive season.
The tie takes place at the amazing MoneyGram Soccer Park facility in North Dallas at 14:00 CDT/19:00 GMT.

Matchday 3 and the final game in the group for US Portsmouth is Wednesday 23rd March against FC USA Texas's 98 Academy side. Once again, one of the highest ranked sides in the state area and a regular at the Dallas Cup, it will not be an easy way to end the group for US Portsmouth. The final match takes place at MoneyGram Park at 16:00 local time and 21:00 in the UK.

The group winners head into the quarter finals at MoneyGram Park on 25th March from 11:00am onwards and should US progress they would face the winners of group B which includes Solar Chelsea, who are known to US Portsmouth having met at the tournament before as well as Birmingham City's academy, Mexican college side Prepa Tec and Cedar Stars Academy from New Jersey.

The semi finals take place at MoneyGram on 26th March with the Final at FC Dallas' Toyota Stadium in Frisco.

We wish the squad all the best for the upcoming matches and there will be updates online and on Twitter as and when possible.
